Susie B. Goodloe Scholarship Fund

Susie B. Goodloe

Susie Booker Goodloe was born February 9, 1913 in Dodson, Louisiana to Rev. W. Booker and Fannie Booker. She has been a newborn child of God since the age of 10 when she became a member of the New Friendship Baptist church, Dodson, Louisiana. She was married to Samuel J. Goodloe in 1942. In 1952, she moved to Bakersfield, California, transferring her membership to Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church. She was very active in many community affairs as wells as being a devoted Christian. In addition to the auxiliaries of the church, Susie was a member of The Links, sigma Gamma Rho, Delta Kappa Gamma, Veterans of foreign Wars, Household of Ruth, National Council of Black Women, County Volunteer Services, NAACP, American Association of University Women, and the Parent-Teachers Associations and more. 


Susie was educated at Gramblin College and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from southern University, Louisiana; a Master's Degree from California Lutheran college; received an Honorary Doctorate Degree from St. John's District Association and worked in the Bakersfield City School District for 27 years. 


Susie will be thought of often because her smile greeted you and the memory of her kindness and words of wisdom stayed with you as she walked away. 


Susie B. Goodloe passed away on Wednesday, April 14, 1982.

A Scholarship Fund was started in Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in memory of Susie B. Goodloe. The Susie B. Goodloe Scholarship Fund was able to extend financial help to several active members of Mt. Zion for several years now. 


Requirements to be considered for a scholarship, the student applicant must:


* Be a member in regular attendance and good standing at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church for at least a year.

*Be between the age of 17-25 years old

*Be actively involved in and regularly attend Sunday School, youth meetings, youth activities, choir, ushers, junior brotherhood, etc.

*Be registered at and attending a college for at least one quarter/semester

*Have a grade point average of 2.5 o higher for most recent attendance

*Submit a letter of request for scholarship and an official college transcript (sealed) for the last quarter/semester attended
