CHURCH SUNDAY SCHOOL

The Mt. Zion Baptist Church Sunday School has always been an active part of the church. The main objective has always been to teach men, women, boys and girls about Jesus Christ. The Bible has always been the main text book.

We need your child in Sunday School.  We need our adults in Sunday School. If we intend to prepare the next generation of children to follow Christ faithfully and advance the Kingdom forcefully, they will need their parents and the adults of this faith community who are being well trained for this awesome responsibility by word, deed and example. The effective adult Sunday School class is a place where people can learn and respond to the word of God in a systematic and consistent process, develop a network of strong and supportive relationships to encourage them during the victories and the difficult times, and reach other people with a gospel message that will impact their children as well.

The four reasons why Sunday School is important in our Christian lives:

First, Sunday School is important because of its basic purpose - Christian education. In Sunday school persons of all ages learn about God, the Bible and God's will for each person's life. The Bible is the Christian's "handbook for life." Within its pages we learn about what's right and what's wrong. We see examples of people who followed God and those who rejected His leading. And, we learn about Jesus Christ, His teaching, and the Way of Salvation that is available through Him.

HISTORY OF OUR CHURCH

 SUNDAY SCHOOL

It is very important that dreams and visions are recognized as often as possible. This was the thinking of Bro. Melvin McCoy and others concerning the classrooms which were constructed in their present location.

Bro. McCoy attended several Sunday School and B.T.U. Congress and conventions. Each session and city he visited , the churches had lovely study rooms and this gave him a general idea. Since Mt. Zion’s Sunday School was growing so rapidly, we needed a space to grow, to study, and learn God’s word in a more comfortable atmosphere.

Bro. McCoy talked with the late Rev. Dirks concerning his thoughts and desires for the church Sunday school and Rev. Dirks was in total agreement. After a few positive meetings and discussions a building fund was started. Bro. McCoy and the late Sis Rachel Brown contributed the first money toward the funds for the classrooms and the fellowship hall.
